Introduction and History in Brief
The great beautiful shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
The temple is located in Warangal District, Telangana, India.
The Swayambhu Shambhulingeswara temple built during the Kakatiya dynasty rule is dedicated to Lord Shiva who is worshipped in the swayambhu linga form (self-manifested). There are intricate carvings on its walls and ceilings which paint a lovely picture of the historic era. Officials plan to remove the six-nine-inch lime mortar concrete on the terrace of the temple’s main mandapam, which has lost its potency. Fresh lime plaster will be laid and a slope created
Their far-sighted work done for public welfare and social uplift are still visible in these monuments as they built numerous artificial lakes, also developed port for trade and commerce. They built grand temples to promote moral values and Shiva devotion, which are visible examples of exquisite architecture and sculpture art.
Archaeological Survey of India have not provided the archaeological details at sight. But it seems to be built between 1168 to 1180 AD during the reign of Rudradeva who was a noble man and patron of arts and Architecture as Rudresvara temple is one of the grand temple credited to him. This temple is built on a raised platform having three entrance porches, one hall and main Sanctorum is facing to the East. It was dedicated to Shiva. Complete stone roof is supported by stone pillars and beams. Decorative features are visible on pillars and on roof. It might be having a bricks dome which is missing. Exterior walls of the Sanctum Sanctorum are plain. Sand stone is used in its construction.
