Introduction and History in Brief
This famous temple is also known as Mukteshwari Devi Temple. Situated on the banks of river Yamuna, this temple is believed to fulfill the wishes of the devotees just by paying obeisance here. This temple is considered very auspicious for the married people. Covering the history of Treta Yuga, this temple is full of many beliefs. In which devotees from far and wide come to visit the mother during Navratri and go to see the old historical dilapidated buildings built near the temple.
Where the stories of ancient statues and relics make people emotional. The temple building dates back to the Mughal period, but the statue of Muktadevi is considered legends. It is said that this idol changes form with time.
Established on the banks of river Yamuna, this temple narrates the story of the Mughal period, but the sanctum sanctorum and the statue of the mother narrates the story of the Puranas. The statues and dilapidated sections found in this temple complex are from ancient times from 50 to 2600 years ago. Some of which are still located in the rear of the temple. After seeing the mother, people go to see her. The rest are either under government occupation or have been destroyed over a period of time. The rough plateau area around gives a feel of Chambal.
The flow of Yamuna river can be seen from the chahar wall of the rear part of the temple complex. Which looks very nice. During Navratri, King Rank, Saints from far flung districts come here and have darshan.
Muktanagar was the capital of King Daityaraj Bali of Sithupurwa state of the district. Which is known today as Moosanagar. Where the temple of Mukteshwari Devi is situated. In which Mother Mukta Devi is seated. Due to this ancient temple on the banks of river Yamuna, this town was named Muktanagar. Gradually its changed form became Musanagar. Due to being the abode of gods, Yakshas and kings, this place was given the status of Devlok.
In order to conquer the other empire, the demon king Bali came here and performed an Ashwamedha with 99 sacrifices by law. Since then there is a practice of worshiping Havan and performing Yagya in Uttargamini of this temple complex.
Since then, devotees coming from far and wide come to that place and fulfill their wishes by performing Havan and Yagya. And at the time of Navratri, after fulfillment of the vow, they come here and offer the offering. The people there believe that the idol of the mother changes its form every time it is visited. Which as a miracle surprises the devotees. Crowds of people gather to see which.
All the devotees celebrate their mother by taking out a procession of Jawars. Protected by the Archaeological Department, security arrangements are provided for the devotees in this temple.
