Introduction and History in Brief
The Indian Army not only renovated an uninhabited and completely forgotten ancient Shiv temple in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, but also opened it for devotees after decades. The army also got help from the local people in this work. Along with this, the local administration also helped. This is the same Shiva temple, where the famous song ‘Jai Jai Shivshankar…’ on Rajesh Khanna-Mumtaz was filmed.
This temple was built in the year 1915 by Maharani Mohini Bai Sisodia, wife of Maharaja Hari Singh. This temple located in Gulmarg has been repaired by the army battalion again with the help of local people. The roads leading to the temple have also been redesigned and the army personnel have re-constructed the roads properly.
Indian Army officer BS Phogat, along with the local people, once again opened this temple. BS Phogat said that the real beauty of Kashmir is its people. The special thing inside this community is Kashmiriyat. If you look here, then temples, mosques, churches and gurudwaras will be found around.
As a Temple concern, Monday, Tuesday and Saturday are the day known for special Sai Pooja day. Temple is full of devotees particularly on Thursday.
Visitors and devotees can see many statues of holy deities like LORD BRAHMA, LORD SHIVA ,LORD VISHNU AND MAA DURGA.
Devotees used to come to pray to Lord Ram, Maa Sita ,Laxmanji and Hanumanji also.
Although,Temple is small and placed on the road as it is so beautiful and clean.
Temple people used to follow all covid 19 protocols . Temple is surrounded by Lots of Trees and fresh air as far as the environment is concerned.

The temple is mainly known for the Shivalingam by which devotees getting blessings of Bhagwan Shiva.
There is a muslim group those believes in Shiva are taking care of the temple with the Army Servants.

Temple is small but it’s very believed ,situated on the top of Gulmarg Hills which is covered with white snow .

- By Air: The nearest airport to Gulmarg is in Srinagar which is 56 kilometres away. It is a domestic airport and is well connected to major cities in India by regular flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Amritsar. Outside the airport, you can hire a prepaid cab which will cost you around Rs. 1500 one-way. You can also hire a shared taxi which will cost less.
- By Train: Jammu is the nearest railway station, at a distance of 290 kilometres. Jammu railway station is well connected to the most of the railheads in major Indian cities. Some of the popular trains are Jammu Rajdhani, Himgiri Express, Swarak Express, Andaman Express and Himsagar Express which connects the farthest railhead in Trivandrum city.
- By Bus:Gulmarg is well-connected with regular bus services from Srinagar, Sonmarg and other neighbouring towns in Kashmir. You can choose from regular, deluxe and luxury buses operated by both government and private companies.
