Introduction and History in Brief
Mavli Devi Temple This temple is situated on the south bank of Shivnath river in Tarponga village, located at a distance of 62 km from Raipur and 3 km from Vishrampur on the Raipur-Bilaspur road, in the Raipur district of Chhattisgarh state.
The idols of the door frame and pavilion of this temple belong to 11-12th century AD, but the remaining warrior statues and other architectural pieces which are kept on the support of the outer wall of the temple belong to 16-17th century AD. This collection is important from the archaeological point of view. This monument is protected by the State of Chhattisgarh.

Singarpur, the city of temples where Mavli Mata is residing. Many centuries ago, the presiding deity of the Banjaras has now become the worship of the entire region. With the faith of the devotees, Mavli Mata is going to fulfill all the desires in the public belief. Temples of many societies went on being built near the temple in Singarpur and Singarpur became the city of temples.
People’s faith in Mavli Mata kept increasing, who started coming to Mata’s court to obey. With this, temples of many societies went on being built here. Notable temples include Ram temple of Sahu society, Parameshwari Devi temple of Devagan society, Laddu Gopal temple of Jhiriya Raut society, Ram Darbar temple of Kurmi society, Mahadev temple of Dhimar society, Bhola Nath temple of Yadav society etc. Jaitkham of Satnami society is also established here.
Mavli Mata is revered in all the society today in the name of Lok Devi. The process of whose temple construction continues even today. A decade ago, his exclusive devotee Jagat Narayan came forward to expand the Mavli Mata temple, Dau ji built a three-storey building by connecting the temple around the Mata temple. The building in which life-size idols of all the deities of the society were installed. In the idols of all the gods of Sanatan Dharma, idols of river goddesses including Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Durga have also been installed in the Trinity. Deities of four Hindu pilgrimages, Badrinath, Dwarkadhish, Rameshwaram and Jagannath ji have also been replaced.
Architecture
This is the site of an ancient demolished temple, where the villagers have built a new temple and have attached the old door frame and some idols to the walls in the pavilion. Presently this temple is famous as the temple of ‘Mavli Devi’ or ‘Mavli Mata’. The idol of Mahishasurmardini is worshiped here as Mavli Mata. This form of Mavli Mata is more popular in Chhattisgarh. The ancient door frame of this temple is ornate. The river Devi Yamuna stands on its left branch and the river Goddess Ganga stands on the right branch. The statues of Chaturbhuji Vishnu, Mahishasur Mardini and Uma Maheshwar are important among the sculptures on the wall. A good collection of Shivling, Nandi statues, Sati pillars and warrior statues can be seen here.
The festivals of Mahashivratri and Hanuman Jayanti are celebrated with utmost devotion on this island. There is also a 7-day mela or fair that is held in the month of Paosh Purnima.

Modes of Travel
“By Air Raipur Airport is the nearest airport. Bhatapara and Bilaspur are the nearest railway stations by train. Mavli Mata Temple can be reached by road via Bhatapara and Nipaniya.
No matter which part of the country you’re coming from, there’s a train that will get you to Chhattisgarh. Such is the connectivity offered by its two main junctions — Raipur and Bilaspur. These two stations fall along the routes of multiple passenger trains, such as the Rajdhani Express, Chhattisgarh Express, Gandhidham-Puri Express, Bilaspur-Chennai Express, Gitanjali Express, Vishakhapatnam-Mumbai LLT Express. They run on different days of the week, so do check and plan your departure accordingly.
The train ride to Chhattisgarh might sound long but it’s well worth the time to see the country in a whole new way. Changing landscapes, colourful towns, smiling faces, lush countryside — they are pictures that will stay with you forever.
Chhattisgarh’s only functional passenger airport is situated in its capital city, Raipur. The Swami Vivekananda Airport is about 15 km away from the main city and has regular flights coming in from major cities across India. These include — Delhi, Nagpur, Mumbai, Vishakhapatnam, Chennai, Bengaluru, Indore, Kolkata, Ranchi and Jaipur amongst others. In total, there are 11 national highways cutting through, including NH6 connecting Mumbai and Kolkata, NH16 going from Hyderabad to Bhopalpatnam, NH78 from Madhya Pradesh to Jharkhand, NH43 from Raipur to Vishakhapatnam. Those choosing road travel can pick between chauffeur driven vehicles, private taxis, self-driven cars, public or private buses. Inter-state bus services are popular for their affordability and connectivity, with routes offered from all neighbouring states. With private bus services, you could find the same routes as well as longer distances, which for a small price-hike provide much more comfort.

If you like the sound of train travel, ensure all bookings are made as soon as possible, since they can get crowded especially during festival season or around big holidays.

With plenty of government and privately-run bus services running across Chhattisgarh, travellers can make their journey between destinations a fascinating road trip.
