Introduction and History in Brief

This beautiful and small shrine is dedicated to Maa Jwala.

In the remote Daggar area of Bani, the entire area resonated with the flame of mother Jwala in the early hours of Tuesday. Devotees kept on chanting the traditional drum and flute and chanting the mother throughout the night. The torches were burning on distant mountains as if someone had lit a big light. The people were taken aback by the 95-year-old priest of the temple, Bhagat Ram, who passed through the embers of the three temples of Maa Jwala and then lit the torch together. With this, the annual journey of Jwala Maa was completed in Dhanigar of Bani. Hundreds of devotees joined the yatra to wish the region the happiness and the blessings of Mother Jwala remained on the people of the region.

According to local people, the recognition of Jwala Maa temple of Dhaggar is associated with Jwalaji Dham of Himachal. From here, the idol of the mother was installed in Daggar. People told that Jwala Maa has been worshiped in the village for centuries and the people of the region take out the yatra every year. In it, at night, people gather in the temple courtyard with a torch from the houses, shouting the mother. After the circumambulation of all the temples, the torch of the devotees is lit in one place, from which the priests walk out of the embers vigorously.

A cultural fair was also organized in Dhaggar on Tuesday, concluding the annual visit of Maa Jwala. In this function organized by Maa Jwala Mandir Committee, artist Kaku Thakur and colleagues from Himachal Pradesh entertained people from cultural programs.

Members of the organizing committee said that dignitaries of the assembly constituency formed during the closing ceremony were honored, including sarpanch of various panchayats and retired tehsildar Gyasudin. At the same time, many students of excellent services in various fields were also honored.

The cultural program continued at ten to three in the morning. After this, guests who came with the people of the area in the traditional Kud dance were also forced to dance. During the ceremony, a free medical camp was organized on behalf of Dr. Rameshwar, in which health check-up of four hundred patients was done.

The shrine is located on Zabarwan Mountain range that is 20 km away from Srinagar. There are 350 long devri stone steps through which you can reach to this spiritual place. The architecture of this holy place signifies the fine Kashmiri culture. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Jwala (Fire) which is Ishta Devi for many Kashmiri Pandits. A fair is organized at this temple on every year in the month of June or July. On this auspicious day, devotees offer Yellow Rice and Shooshnor to the Goddess Jwala.

Some elders have seen the flames coming from the shrine in the early sixties. The shrine is well-maintained and is good in shape. The surroundings are good having green meadows where you can feel yourself very close to nature.
