Introduction and History in Brief
Udupi Shri Krishna Temple is a well-known historic Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and Dvaita Matha located in the city of Udupi in Karnataka, India.
The Krishna Matha was founded by the Vaishnavite saint Jagadguru Shri Madhvacharya in the 13th century. He was the founder of the Dwaita school of Vedanta. It is believed that Madhwacharya found the vigraha of Shri Krishna in a large ball of gopichandana.[2] As told by Sri Madhvacharya, in his Tantrasara Sangraha, the Vigraha is placed Pashchimabhimukha (facing west). All the other Vigrahas in other Ashta Muthas face west as well. Devotees always have darshan of Lord Krishna through the inner window, known as the Navagruha Kindi & the outer window known as the Kanakana Kindi, which is decorated by an arch named after him. A statue has also been erected. A similar window covers the immediate front of the Vigraha and is called Navagraha Kindi. It is often mistaken to be the Kanakuna Kindi.[3]
The temple opens at 5:30 hours IST. The unique feature of the temple is that the deity is worshipped through a silver-plated window with nine holes (Navagraha Kindi).[4] The temple also offers prasadam (lunch) at noon and is popularly called Anna Brahma as it feeds a vast number of devotees.
The Matha area resembles a living Aashram, a holy place for daily devotion and living. Surrounding the Shri Krishna Temple are several temples namely the Udupi Anantheshwara Temple which is over a thousand years old.

Each of the Mathas is headed by a Swami, who will be in charge of the temple during his Paryaya. The Paryaya is held on even years like 2008, 2010 and 2012. The Paryaya tradition has completed 500 years as of 2021.[7] Presently, Sri Admaru Math is administering the temple with Junior Pontiff Sri Eshapriya Teertha Swami [8] ascending the post of Sarvajna or Paryaya Peetha. Festivals like Makara Sankranthi, Ratha Sapthami, Madhva Navami, Hanuman Jayanthi, Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Navarathi Mahotsava, Madhva Jayanti (Vijaya Dashami), Naraka Chathurdashi, Deepavali, Geetha Jayanthi etc. are celebrated very grandly by Paryaya Mutt every year.

This is an international airport operating on connecting routes and has regular flights to Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Muscat and many other international destinations. On the domestic front, it is connected via daily flights from Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Belgaum, Vizag and many others. Some of the Airlines that fly to Udipi are Air India and Air India Express, Air Pegasus, Jet Airways, and SpiceJet. The largest regional hub, however, would be the Kempe Gowda International Airport near Bangalore, which has many more flights to smaller and larger cities alike and is about 380 km from Mangalore and about 425 km from Udupi.
By Rail:
Udupi has a railway station about 4 km from the centre of the city. This station has many trains with short stops here, although the station itself is very poorly maintained. Some of the trains that have stops at this station are Kerala Sampark Kranti, Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani among many others. Udupi is very well connected by bus routes to multiple cities within the region. Even from Mangalore, which is the closest hub, there are regular buses operating to Udupi and back. As it is a commonly travelled-to destination within the region, Udupi has Both AC and non-AC bus services to and from Bangalore, Mangalore, Mysore, Belgaum, Hubli, Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Ernakulam, and others. The larger bus operators of Southern India such as SRS Travels, VRL Travels as well as travels operators who are locally well known like Durgamba motors, Ganesh Travels And Tours and others operate service from Udupi to other places. A/C buses cost about 800 rupees and upwards from Bangalore with rates increasing with increasing distances. Karnataka State Transport Corporation buses also operate on this route.
