Introduction and History in Brief
This temple is at Govardhan Town, 22 kms from Mathura, where the Govardhan hill itself is worshipped as deity.
Legend is, during Mahabharata era when Rain God Indra became furious from residents of Braj for not worshipping him, He ordered rain to lash at that area so heavily that it almost submerged it.
At the request of Brajwasis, Lord krishna lifted the Govardhan hill at his finger and told all the people to gather under it along with all the bulls, cows and other animals.
This way, all the people were saved from the fury of Indra who learned his lesson and paid obeisense to Lord Krishna.
This temple is erected to commemorate that event.
