An route, Vaishno Devi Temple, the sacred Baba Dhansar Mandir in Katra is one of the sites for the Hindu devotees to pay homage. The holy shrine is situated close to mountain Bridge and sorrounded with beautiful views of nature.
It is believed that The Place is named after Baba Dhansar Ji and is still run by the heirs from the same blood line with 700 years of devotion by each generation. The magnificent waterfall is harvest of the 12 years long and progressive worship of Lord Shiva by Dhansar ji.The Legend is that, Lord Shiva after being impressed by the Dhansar Ji’s arduous veneration, gifted Him powers to eliminate an evil spirit who was cannibal. The most amazing and jaw-dropping facts are that, waterfall has no evident source (glacier or reservoir), also it runs throughout the year and last one, the water turns warm during winters and cold during summer time.it’s a religious place and no diving is allowed due to sacred reasons.
It is a belief that when Lord Shiva went to the Amarnath cave to tell Parvati the story of his immortality, he left his serpent king, Sheshnag at Anantnag. Shesh Nag came in the human form as Vasudev. One of the sons of Vasudev was Dhansar who was a saintly person.
As the local belief goes, in the ancient times there was a demon who lived near Karua Jheel(lake) and committed atrocities on the people of village Karua. The villagers sought help of Baba Dhansar to get rid of the Demon. It is believed that Baba Dhansar prayed to Lord Shiva for help. Lord Shiva arrived and helped in killing the Demon. The temple of Baba Dhansar and a cave of Lord Shiva near Karua Jheel has become a place of worship. Karua Jheel is considered sacred where bathing is not permitted. However, the devotees may take a bath downstream. People believe that their wishes are fulfilled if they take bath in the stream and pray with complete faith. A large number of devotees visit the place every year on the day of Mahashivratri when an annual fete (mela) is organized.
Prachin temple Mandir is an ancient temple located at Katra. This temple has a unique tradition of offering pray to the Holy deity- Goddes Ardhkuwari, deity Goddess Durga by offering Bhauj in early morning, in day and both before night. They also do prayers to Shiv ji,Maa Kaali and Ram-Siya and Hanumaji, blow many diyaas as they are all beleivers and emotionally attached to God Shiva.
