Introduction and History
The temple is the heart of Chamilo, Situated on the mid hill and a well believed place dedicated to Goddess Anusuya.
Anusuya Devi Temple is a religious temple located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is situated at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. One has to walk on foot to see the temple.
A grand statue of Lord Ganesha is seen before entering the temple. It is believed about the magnificent statue of Lord Ganesha that this rock is made naturally.
The temple is built in the Nagara style. A grand statue of Sati Anusuya is installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, a silver umbrella is placed on the idol.
Near the temple of Shri Anusuya Mata are “Maharishi Atri Taposthali” and “Dattatreya”. There is a statue of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Ganesha in the courtyard of the temple. Along with this, the “Trimukhi of Dattatreya ji” son of Sati Anusuya is also enshrined.
Every year in the month of December, the birth anniversary of Dattatreya, son of Sati Anusuya, is organized and the fair is also organized at the time of this festival, people come from far away to see it and from this holy place Panch Kedaro A Kedar also paves the way to “Rudranath”.
There is a legend belonging to the temple.
Once a time, Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Lord Shiva came to this place as sages to test Anusuya for having food only when Anusuya will serve them in a naked form. Goddess Anusuya somehow got that these sages are Gods so she put a condition that she will serve the food with naked body if they took the form of her sons.
Gods have done the same as the condition required and Anusuya served them.
From that time , Gods are Prayed here as the form of Goddess Anusuya’s sons along with Maa Anusuya.
The temple is famous for getting prayed mostly for having bless with child.
One of the most famous pilgrim places in Chamoli is the Anusuya Devi Temple, dedicated to goddess Sati. She was the wife of Atri Muni, a great sage and one of the Sapta Rishis (Sapta means seven and rishis mean sages in Sanskrit). It is said that Devi Anusuya fully dedicated to her husband. It is located 30 kms away from Chopta. It is located in the lap of Himalayas which attracts the pilgrims.
In the month of December, on the occasion of Duttatreya Jayanti, large fair is organized every year, which is attended by many devotees and tourists. Throughout the night they worship the Goddess Sati through Bhajans with lighted lamps in their hands.
Visitors can see the very green,Calm,Natural and spiritual environment around the temple.
Many devotees comes to the temple 3-4 times a day to keep the temple clean,collective and maintain… They also come to pray to Maa Anusuya.
As a Temple concern, the premises are always said to be full of devotees during Morning and evening pray.
Although,Temple is small and placed on the road as it is so beautiful and clean.
Temple people used to follow all covid 19 protocols . Temple is surrounded by Lots of Trees and fresh air as far as the environment is concerned.

Anusuya mata temple is located 05 km trekking distance from Mandal village which is 12 km far from Gopeshwar on Ukhimath road. This temple is surrounded with very beautiful and dense forest which makes it a paradise for birdwatchers. Rudranath trek also leads from Anusuya mata temple. If you are visiting this temple, then you must visit Atrimuni rishi ashram which is at 01 km distance from this temple. You will find a very beautiful and high waterfall there which is known as Amrit Ganga. It is said that this is the only place on eart where you can orbit Maa Ganga (River Ganges).
